Art has the ability to bring life and character into a space, whether that’s through contemporary abstracts, captivating realism, sculptures or photography. Your home is an expression of your personality and creativity, continue reading for some tips on how to display your art to reflect this and create a space which brings joy and inspiration into everyday life.
1. Understanding Your Space
Before hanging your artwork, take a step back and look at your space- think about the dimensions, lighting and interior colour scheme and style. The size and shape of the wall will determine what sized artwork would be best suited- large, bold pieces might be ideal for spacious, well-lit areas, while smaller artworks can be grouped together in spaces such as hallways or nooks. For more spacious areas, think about whether one large piece would work best, or whether a series of 2 of 3 pieces in a similar style could be more suited.
It’s also important to consider heat and sunlight when hanging your art. Artwork should not be displayed directly above a radiator as the heat can cause warping of the wood and even chemical reactions than can damage both the paint layer and the support. Humid or damp conditions should also be avoided, and although many frames and varnishes do have a level of UV protection, refrain from displaying art in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time.
2. Framing
Once you have chosen your piece of art, the next step is to decide on whether framing is required for protection and aesthetic purposes. Fine Art Giclee Prints should always be framed to protect them from dust and sunlight, and to ensure they can be displayed. There are many different framing options available in a variety of colour schemes and styles, so think about what frame would best match your decor while complementing the artwork. Original artwork can be framed to add an additional finishing touch to the piece, or can be displayed unframed where the raw or painted edges of the canvas add character to the piece.

3. Lighting
Proper lighting can accentuate the beauty of your art collection. Consider installing adjustable track lighting or picture lights to illuminate specific pieces and create a focal point. Natural light from windows can also enhance the colours and textures of artworks during the day.
4. Experiment With Arrangements
Artwork doesn’t always have to be displayed at eye-level. Play around with different compositions and positioning of your collection- perhaps grouping together different sized artworks and displaying clustered together in a ‘gallery wall’ style, or displaying symmetrically for a more formal style. Think about using your existing furniture, for example shelving or cabinets, to stand your art on, as an alternative to wall displaying.
For wall displaying ensure you securely hang your art with proper picture hanging string and screws, and be sure to plug the wall if necessary. Alternatively command strips are a good choice if you rotate your collection frequently, as these leave less damage to walls. However be sure to follow the instructions carefully and do not exceed the recommended weight to ensure safe displaying of your art.

5. Express Your Personality
Finally, let your personality and creativity shine through, your home is a reflection of who you are so choose artwork that reflects this, resonates with you personally and overall brings you joy. Collecting and displaying art that you love and which means something to you will not only transform your space into something aesthetically beautiful, it also creates a space which makes you feel at home, a space that is truly yours.
