Artwork Reproductions: Explaining The Giclée Fine Art Printing Method

What is a Giclée Fine Art Print?

Giclée Fine Art Prints are created using a specialised, high-resolution inkjet printer which have been specifically designed to produce fine art reproductions with exceptional detail and colour accuracy. The original artwork is digitally scanned or photographed to create a high-resolution image which captures all the fine details, before being printed using the “Giclée” printing technique. The term “Giclée” (pronounced zhee-clay) originates from the french word “to spray”, which is how the ink is applied- the inkjet printers use a precise spraying technique to apply tiny droplets of ink onto the chosen surface. This allows for a seamless reproduction that captures the intricate details, colour and texture of the original artwork.

Why choose a Giclée Fine Art Print?

Unlike standard prints, Fine Art Giclée Prints stand apart due to their ability to capture exceptional detail, longevity and value to collectors. High-quality pigmented inks ensure accurate colour reproduction, while the archival-quality of materials used, such as the fine art paper or canvas, ensures resistance to fading, in fact these prints are known to last approximately 200 years before they start to fade.

Finally, Giclée prints offer art collectors a more accessible way to own works they love, as they are much more affordable than original artwork. These prints closely resemble the original works while being a fraction of the cost, making them a great alternative if you’re looking for a high-quality pieces of art but at a more accessible price.
