Amadora Art x True North Brew Co: A New Painting Celebrating 35 Years of Memories at Forum, Sheffield

A new Sheffield cityscape painting is coming soon, and you’re invited to the launch…

For 35 years, Forum has been a much-loved part of Sheffield city centre. Overlooking Devonshire Green, the independent venue has become a familiar Sheffield landmark and a place where generations of people have made memories - from coffees and brunches on Division Street to first dates, celebrations, nights out and evenings with friends. As the original venue in the True North Brew Co. story, Forum holds a particularly special place in Sheffield’s independent hospitality scene.

This new artwork was commissioned by owner of True North Brew Co. Kane Yeardley, for whom Forum has a particularly special place in the story of the business, as it was True North’s first venue back in 1992.

Thirty-five years later, Forum has become an iconic place in Sheffield city centre, where thousands of memories have been made over the years.

As a Sheffield artist, that sense of place and memory is exactly what I wanted to capture in the painting.

My Sheffield cityscape collection is all about celebrating familiar places around my hometown and capturing the character of everyday Sheffield scenes. Previous paintings have featured much-loved locations including The Leadmill, Riverside, Kelham Island, North Town and Nonna's, each inspired by the atmosphere and stories that make these places special.

For the Forum painting, I wanted to capture the energy of a typical night at the venue, which people of Sheffield can resonate with and be reminded of good times spent there over the last 35 years.

I’ve used a vivid colour palette and expressive brushstrokes to bring that atmosphere to life - creating a vibrant, nostalgic Sheffield artwork that I hope will feel familiar to anyone who knows and loves Forum. As Sheffield is my hometown, I have many fond memories of spending time at this venue with friends, making this commission even more special to create.

Celebrating Sheffield's independent scene

One of the things I love most about working on projects like this is the opportunity to bring art and independent Sheffield businesses together.

Sheffield has such a distinctive creative scene and independent culture, from its artists and makers, to independent cafés, restaurants, bars and shops. These places are part of the city’s identity and they provide the backdrop for so many of our everyday memories.

This collaboration with True North is a chance to celebrate exactly that.

It’s also the next painting in my series of Sheffield Cityscapes - a collection of artworks inspired by the people, places and businesses that make the city what it is.
