A New Art Direction: Blending Abstracts With Portraits

A New Art Direction: Blending Abstracts With Portraits

Hi everyone!! In this week’s blog I thought I’d share with you the reasoning behind the recent shift in my art style to focusing on portraits.

Since the beginning of my art journey (about 3 years ago now!) I have always love painting in both abstract and realism forms. Although I love so many aspects of both styles, with these being complete opposites to one another I always felt somewhat torn between which style I should focus on. So after a few weeks of feeling like I needed to try something new, I decided at the beginning of this year to follow that feeling and merge my two opposing styles together.

When I was younger I always used to paint portraits as I loved capturing expressions and detail - so I thought I’d see if I still thought the same 8 years down the line. After a few very rusty sketches I soon remembered why I loved painting them so much and I knew this was the direction my art was meant to go in next. The new collection of abstract portraits was in the making!

So far the collection focuses on taking the colourful, expressive, textured aspects of abstracts for the background, and blending it with detailed portraits that capture the energy of the subject. We’ve got 3 pieces so far in the collection and I can’t wait to share what I’m currently working on with you (these are my biggest portraits yet, and you might recognise who they are from sneak peeks on socials!).

My aim for this new style is to create a collection of abstract portraits in a range of colour schemes and subjects. Whether it’s from iconic musicians and sportspeople, to personal commissions, I’m excited to explore this new painting style more and continue to capture the energy and authenticity of the subjects.

Stay tuned for the next Limited Edition Print drop from this collection coming soon! If you like vibrant pink artwork, this one’s for you!
